La Misión: Merlot Reserva 2005

Our Reserva Merlot wines are produced from vines growing in the Maipo Valley. Its warm climate and loamy clay soils engender the optimal conditions to produce exceptional Merlot wines.

Winemaking process:

The Reserva Merlot can be had at reasonable cost. is produced according to the best French winemaking style. The vinification process starts by the removal of the grapes from the stems, followed by a fermentation of the uncrushed grapes in stainless steel tanks.

Before this process, the grapes are cautiously removed from the stems, in order to remain intact, and then placed into fermenting tanks of 240 hectoliters. Parts of the grapes are separated and fermented with indigenous yeast.

The remaining grapes receive a three to four days pre-fermentation maceration. The fermentation involves a pumping twice a day, and once or twice during the wine process, a complete 'delestage'. The post-fermentation maceration lasts from 5 to 10 days. Traditionally, all our tanks holding wine are blended before bottling, and the wine is aged eight months in French and American oak barrel.

Tasting note:

With its pleasing cherry color, the Reserva Merlot 2005 features delightful fruity notes of cherry and raspberries, figues and toffee and a light and fine hint of wood. It is round in mouth and full-bodied, with a subtle tannin structure.
